The leaving year was not an easy one for the Russian football but at the same time 2016 also brought a lot of fine moments and positive emotions. The Russian futsal team finished as the runners-up and won silver medals of the FIFA Futsal World Cup 2016 and the UEFA Futsal EURO-2016 and topped the UEFA ranking. The Russian Women’s National team qualified to the final stage of the UEFA Women’s EURO-2017 to take place in the Netherlands and the Russian Women’s Futsal team won the prestigious Four Nations Cup. Other national teams enjoyed successful performances too.
The upcoming 2017 has a plenty of thrilling competitions in store for us. The Russian National team will take part in the FIFA Confederations Cup where will face New Zealand, Mexico and Portugal at the group stage. The Russian U21 team will start their way to the UEFA U21 EURO 2019; the qualification draw of the tournament will take place on 26 January. The Russian U17 team will fight for the qualification to the final stage of the UEFA European U17 Championship 2017 in spring. The Russian Women’s National team will play against Germany, Italy and Sweden at the group stage of the UEFA Women’s EURO-2017. Other women’s teams will enter their qualifications to major tournaments as well as the Russian Futsal team that will set off for the European qualification. The significant traditional tournaments await the beach soccer team too.
A lot of tasks are to be completed in the youth and grassroots football development as well as the improvement of football infrastructure. Russia will also continue the preparation to the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
