"We want to bring football to school"

On Thursday, 9 February the first meeting of FUR Grassroots Football Committee took place in the House of Football. After the meeting Sergey Anokhin, FUR vice-president and the chairman of the committee spoke to the media.

- Today the first meeting of FUR Grassroots Football Committee has been held. We have taken the decision to create the working group on initiating amendments to the regulations of the Russian football championship among amateur teams of the third division.

Another issue on today’s agenda was devoted to initiating the recognition of grassroots football as a separate form of sport by including it into the all-Russian register of sports. It was decided to approach FUR leadership with the petition to address the Sports Ministry of the Russian Federation with the initiative to recognize grassroots football as a form of football.

I would also like to emphasise that grassroots football is both youth football and school football. We have discussed UEFA project “Football at school” with the Federal center of organizational and methodological maintenance of physical education under the aegis of the Russian Ministry of Education and Science. It is important that children could get the basic football skills at school, mainly at primary school. We need the relevant infrastructure for that, appropriate coaches and the commitment of the Russian Ministry of Education and Science and the Ministry of Sports to adopt this practice.
